The Coalition on Children and Weight San Diego was established in January 2002, through the efforts of San Diego County staff and other health professionals in the community.

When Supervisor Ron Roberts became Chairman of the County of San Diego Board of Supervisors in 2002, he identified childhood overweight as a priority issue and allocated funds to support implementation of the Coalition and other child overweight prevention efforts.

The Coalition has now grown to include of hundreds of individuals who represent community organizations, schools, preschool and childcare programs, recreation facilities, healthcare providers, government agencies, community residents, and others.

VISION
San Diego County's children and families will be physically active and practice healthful eating that is supported at home, childcare, school, and in the community.

MISSION
Promote healthful eating and physical activity to help ensure the optimal growth and development of San Diego County’s children and to reduce childhood overweight and resulting increased risk of developing chronic diseases.

GOAL
Prevent childhood overweight by addressing its complex contributing factors.
